HOW TO RID YOUR HOME OF BAD ENERGY
Does your home have bad juju? Does it feel icky the moment you walk in the door? Maybe you just got rid of the roommate from hell. Or Maybe you recently separated from your live-in partner and his/her presence still lingers like a sad ghost. Whatever the reason for the bad vibes, it’s time to hit the refresh button and reprogram your home. Here’s a quick rundown of some key steps you can take to chase out the bad energy and welcome in the new.
MEDITATE
First things first, before you do anything else, it’s important you set an intention for clearing the space. Here is a simple exercise you can do to cleanse your mind and make sure you’re ready to move on from the lingering bad energy.
Sit in the middle of your bedroom, close your eyes. Begin to sink into your breath. Feel your body settle. Allow yourself to feel the energy of the room first and then the whole house. Think of the good times and the bad times and then imagine all the energy from your former inhabitant. See it in a different color from yours: Where they sat, where they ate, where they got dressed. Let it begin to move out the doors and windows and up into the sun. All energy from every nook and cranny, gone. Now you are ready to begin.
WIPE THE WALLS
First, some actual cleansing. You’re going to wipe down the walls with a water and vinegar mixture. A 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar will work fine. It’s important to do this during the day-time, not at night and when you feel healthiest and most energetic. Play music that inspires you and after you are done, take a shower and change your clothes. This symbolic act of literally cleansing the walls of your home moves some heavy, heavy energy and will significantly help the restart.
SAGE SMUDGE
Sage is a magical plant that, when burned will clear away bad energy in a space. Get a stick of sage, they are easy to find at Whole Foods, Sprouts or even the candle section of Walmart these days. Be sure to open up all windows so as to let the negative energy escape the house. Light the sage, set an intention (what you want for the house and yourself) and ground down through your feet. Walk clockwise through the home while stating your intention for the new space in each room you enter.
ADD SALT
Place 1 to 2 tablespoons of Epsom salts in the corners of each room. If you don’t want to do every room, just do the room or rooms the offending person spent the most time in. Leave the salt there for at least 24 hours, then sweep or vacuum it up. Don’t be surprised if the salt is no longer pristine white and looks dirty, that means it did its job and absorbed the bad energy.
PLACE CRYSTALS
Once you’ve got the negative energy cleared out of your home it’s important to support the flow of healing, positive energy. One good way to do this is with a few well-placed crystals throughout your home. Some believe that crystals have certain properties that influence a space. Rose quartz has a high vibration and creates a warm holding space for new love to be brought in. Selenite can help you connect to higher aspects of yourself. Malachite helps us remember we are held by mother earth and that we are taken care of. Go to a crystal shop and see what you are guided by and pick out a few for your home.
ADD PLANTS
No home recharge is complete without the magic of plants. Houseplants are rockstars of transformation because plants bring in oxygen, purify the air, cut old energy and bring new life into the home. Surround your home with plants! Go to the garden section of Home Depot or Lowes and check out the houseplant section. Each plant has a guide with suggested light and water requirements. Pick a few plants that will work best with the light you have in your home and enjoy the uplifted energy they will bring.
