How to Defend Your Skin with Antioxidants

In the skincare world, antioxidants are one of the top superstars on the scene. Why? Because they counteract skin-damaging free radicals.

What are free radicals?

Free radicals are charged particles of oxygen that enter into destructive chemical bonds with organic substances, such as proteins. Exposure to UV rays and other environmental factors like pollution lead to the formation of free radicals. What that means for your skin is that these particles are one of the leading instigators of fine lines, wrinkles, sagging, and spots. That’s where antioxidants come in to save the day helping to minimize the damaging effects of free radicals and encouraging a more youthful complexion.

Antioxidants can now be found in many plant-based botanical skincare products such as Tevenere Botanics line of organic, hemp oil infused skincare designed to leave your skin healthy and glowing. Their products pack a whole host of plant-powered antioxidants, such as vitamin C, green tea, and chamomile extract along with the healing powers of vitamin E and cocunut oil.  Using a broad-spectrum sunscreen is always your best line of defense for sun damage, but layering that with these sort of anitoxidant infused products is another great way to combat environmental stressors.

Don’t forget about the inside!

It’s important to think about not only what you’re putting on your skin, but how you’re nourishing it from the inside, too. As the saying goes, you are what you eat, and that most definitely applies to antioxidants. By ingesting antioxidants, you’re giving your skin that same free radical-fighting advantage, and doing good things for your body and health, in general. There’s no shortage of antioxidants to choose from in supplement form but they’re especially easy to get via a healthy daily servings of plenty of fruits and veggies. The more colorful the better!
